Generative Music

My current work concerns the concept of using generative, machine-learning and AI techniques in the composition process to create new ideas and improve the creative workflow. I use a mix of software, including Ableton Live, to generate new ideas based on played notes, with the aim of sparking creative thoughts and acting as a “muse” for solo composers. Some of these techniques are incorporated into my live setup to add elements of discovery and randomness to the live show, as well as broadening the range of what I am able to play alone on stage. A lot of this work is inspired by that of Halldór Eldjárn & Ólafur Arnalds in their “Stratus” piano project.

I have spoken about these techniques at the Ableton Live User Group (Melbourne) meetup and mentored other musicians on adopting approaches.
